Losely derived from the TT-01 sedan and sharing many parts with it, the DF-02 was the first new entry-level 4WD buggy chassis from Tamiya in 14 years. It was designed with the beginner in mind and features very simple construction, and the first release in the series was actually an RTR version of the Gravel Hound.

The build was mostly uneventful, as expected, and I was very happy to find that this was one of those kits where you use hardware from parts bag A, then move on to bag B, and so forth, instead of Tamiya’s norm of asking you to open every single bag within the first 2 pages of the manual. The TT01-based diffs are toughened up with cast metal ring gears.
For some reason this is the part tree you’ll need to replace most often with the DF-02. The front shock tower is in this lot, and that is the only part on the car that regularly needs to be replaced in my experience. As with most Tamiya parts, the plastic is ABS, so it is quite flexible, but as a result it is stronger then most alloy hop-ups.
    * compatibility table of Grade Up Parts for Tamiya. Fully assembled 4WD DF-02 chassis with body pre-painted and all markings pre-applied. Low center of gravity and wide tread for extra stability and handling. Semi-bearing differential gears. Sealed front and rear gearbox for minimal wear and damage
Looking for an easy to control and perfectly balanced R/C car for off-road running and jumps? Tamiya presents the Gravel Hound, based on the new DF-02 chassis. The DF-02 chassis features longitudinally mounted motor and battery, and powerful Type 540 motor combined with 4 oil dampers.
I am looking to upgrade the shocks that came with my Rising Storm but am a little lost on choices. I have seen the 53701 DF-02 Aluminum Damper Set, but seems rather on the expensive side (A?31.62 + postage from Stellamodels). Has anybody upgraded the shocks on their DF02? or can anyone recommend
